I've dined at Al Vicolo Pizza&Vino and sampled other restaurants, but none compare to Al Vicolo—it's truly the best!
As for Catania, it's not a city I'd recommend visiting. It's incredibly crowded, impoverished, and the air quality leaves much to be desired. Getting around isn't easy either. However, if you venture to Siracusa or any nearby area, you'll gain a completely different perspective on Sicily.

The main reason for staying was to visit Mount Etna and to look around Catania as part of a trip that took in Palermo, Catania and Taormina. It was only 24 hours but our accommodation at B&B La Cupola certainly made the journey worthwhile. The city was a safe environment to walk around and the food was excellent.
Do consider using the rail system as it worked well for us transferring from West to East.

I loved the historic architecture around Via Etnea where I was staying at Etna Suites Group. The food options were everywhere, shopping at all financial levels, and the city was made for pedestrians first and cars second. Don't get a car! You can walk everywhere you want to go and the walk will be exciting and fun. I never felt scared or worried about my safety day or night. I got a tour of Etna that picked me up from my hotel and drove me all the way up and dropped me back off where I started. Awesome awesome city.

It is not just a tourist destination but still a real place.
It is not just a tourist destination but still a real place. Beautiful architecture with a bit of grit. Nice people. Plenty to explore. Good day trip capabilities and public transportation. Affordable food choices. Liked Insigne Cafe and Trattoria da Nuccio. Excellent price value ratio. Not a place for beach time. Great little botanical garden and museum of contemporary art.

Catania surprised me.
Catania surprised me. While people were indifferent, they weren’t rude, which was nice.
Touristy sites were easy to get to by walking. It seems a really walkable city, from the train station to the sites.
Cars were patient and obeyed pedestrian crossings etc and stopped to let people cross the road when there wasn’t any crossing!
The street art is a bonus.
I loved the well advertised touristy sites and there were no long queues, and they were cheaper to get into than a lot of Italy’s sites.
The location was good, a few blocks from Piazza Duomo where restaurants and cafes are so at night had some movement but the hotel was far enough that you didn't hear any noice.
The room was big in size, the bed super comfy, bathroom well ventilated. Small shower but with good water pressure.
Serena, the host/manager was very kind, helpful and spoke very good English...which I found is not common in Sicily.
The room also had a water kettle and some coffee/tea/sugar for you to use. The bathroom had some toiletries too.
was not as advertised
was not a hotel with 24 hr desk service
bad part of town
even though near airport was a b/b not a hotel and advertised as having shuttle service to airport not so had to pay a cab 25 euros with cabbie yelling at us
horrible experience
we want out money back
no water
could not drink tap water
no restaurant nearby
we were told to order from a room menu
we ordered a pizza it was inedible
we want our money back

An excellent place before or after a flight and I would add - even beyond that - the distance to the center of Catania is very short. And even this apartment can be used as a starting point for a trip with a car in Sicily, a well-maintained and well-furnished apartment in all respects. Near consumers, restaurants and a cafeteria. Walking distance of about 10 minutes from the airport. The owner of the apartment - a wonderful and kind woman who will help you in everything.
Perfect for stay close to airport. 4 minute walk and there's a special walkway with big signs leading to airport. Very easy walk with luggage. We'll lit at night as well and there's security cars around so very safe. Room was very nicely done and emCulately clean. Coffee maker, kettle, hairdryer, mini fridge, closet, snacks $. We had the room with large balcony with view of Mount Etna.
Best hotel for overnight near airport. So convenient and definitely a nice boutique feel.
We chose this hotel for its proximity to the airport at Catania. It is 10 minutes from here to the car hire drop off. This is a good standard business style hotel. The room at had, with balcony, was very well equipped and comfortable. Quality coffee machine and tea making facilities. We had a problem with the restaurant and the hotel staff dealt with this so well. The pool was closed when we were there for to a conference, but it looked lovely.
The property is well located in the center of Catania.
Access is easy and safe via a well-lit street. However, it should be borne in mind that the quarter of streets on the northern side is saturated with immigrants.
The property is well equipped and the stay is hassle-free.
Catania is a very interesting place in Sicily. Many historical monuments and interesting natural surroundings (especially Mount Etna). The history of Catania is rich.
Even though the area is residential, the location is great, as you are at a short walking distance away from Catania's sights, which is great. During our stay, we were able to comfortably walk to places, and were close to the train station, which is great, even for traveling to the airport. Also, the staff were very kind and accommodating, and my friend found the boutique element of the hotel charming.
Perfect location for exploring Catania. We always easily found street parking close to the apartment.
The host was super responsive, flexible and helpful.
We spent most of our time outside of the apartment. We drove around in Sicily and returned to the apartment at the end of each day.
If you are looking for a clean and comfortable place to return at the end of a busy day this is perfect.
Everything was perfect! The rooms were big, the kitchen well-stocked, and the breakfast vouchers at a nearby bar made the trip even better. The owner Francesco went above and beyond to make our stay in Catania memorable. He gave excellent recommendations for restaurants in Catania and also for the rest of the towns in our Sicily tour.
The apartment is right in the center of the old town.
Good location, by Via Etna. Simple, clean tidy room with good hot shower.
Breakfast fine, hosts in morning were nice and helpful.
Its a cheap hotel but dont let this put you off. It is clean and tidy.
Catania is rough around the edges. The walk to the railway station is through rebuilt postwar bomb sites.
The main street is beautiful, good architecture, views of Etna.
Very good location, close to the ALIBUS bus that comes from Catania airport, about 15-20 minutes from Piazza Duomo and Piazza Borsellino station, from where you can take buses to other destinations.
I liked the big, tall room, large bathroom, equipped with dryer.
The hotel garden is full of vegetation.
Very close by, there is a great Botanical Garden, free entrance.
This place is spacious and well equipped. I slept better here than I ever have at a hotel. The beds are very comfortable and the place has A/C, which is a must in Sicily. The decor is very nice; my daughter absolutely adored it. It comes with a fully equipped kitchen with everything you need. The owner left us a delicious dessert at checkin, which was a nice touch.
We liked the close proximity to Catania airport as we had an early morning flight. Our room was a good size, clean, fresh and still like new. There was a very good pizzeria (Simpsons) close by, would recommend the rucola, best pizza I have had on my 12 day stay in Sicily. There is also a good bar around the corner for coffees, drinks and sweet & savouries food.
The hotel is close to the airport and close to road connections. The rooms are big and nice. The hotel provides free transportation to the airport, which is welcome because, despite the fact that the airport is a 10-minute walk away, the road does not have a sidewalk. The restaurant is very good, but the prices are a little higher than those in Catania.
We stayed after arriving late into Catania airport so we’re only there for a few hours. Would not base a holiday from this hotel but if you need to be at the airport super early or late then this works fine. Appreciated the airport pick up.
The breakfast was the best I've had here in Sicily at a hotel or b&b. I live here so I've been to many and this was the best by far. Pepe is the absolute best!!
