I went just at the start of the Easter break, and it was nice and quiet, I imagine it being a popular summer resort. Good facilities with plenty of eateries. Travelling around Southend was okay, gets busy during rush-hour. Great long walks along the esplanade and the pier. A lot of the shops were closed during close-season.

I lived in Southend for many years, this was a visit to see family and attend a family gathering. The town (I will never call it a city) is a shadow of its former self. I wouldn't go to Southend unless I had a specific reason, it just isn't as welcoming as it used to be and the high street is dead.
In the summer, short break with young children who want no more than the beach and this place would be ok. There are some decent restaurants but stay out of the town centre for those.

Going around visiting places. Eating out.
Going around visiting places. Eating out. Great taxi service. Hotel was not so good. Not disabled friendly. Fell in bathroom not built for anyone who is disabled.. Hurt myself quite bad. Screaming in agony. Apart from that. Will not be staying in this hotel again

Southend (bearing in mind our visit was in Winter!)
Southend (bearing in mind our visit was in Winter!) is actually really nice. We didn't expect much (we expected Morecambe, but got Southport!). There decent shops; the promenade was clean and open. We ate in The Last Post, but would certainly try other places when we visit again.
It is hard to give a fair representation of a town after a very brief visit, but it made a sufficiently good impression for us to want to see more, when the opportunity arises

Extremely helpful staff, beyond expectations, the lady who booked us in sorted out a car park payment app for me on my phone and helped me make the payment. I really don't think I could have done it myself.
Another lady showed us how to use the plastic cards that open the hotel entrance doors for late night entrance after the hotel had closed for the night, with exceptional patience and concern.
It is the staff that make any business a success. They succeeded with us.
The hotel is conveniently situated across the road from Southend Central Railway Station and close to shops, restaurants, the sea front and the pier.
Although it’s over a busy Wetherspoons pub, our room was quiet and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
We had a very large twin room with a good-size bathroom. The furnishing was basic but the beds were comfortable.
It was convenient to be able to have meals and drinks in the Pub downstairs.
Very nice estuary view, although the window is quite small. When we arrived around 9pm, I asked for the estuary view room and the receptionist upgraded it for free 🤩 that was nice. Old building, that gives the hotel a special charm… Spacious room and bathroom, a portable heater in the room on top of normal heating was very handy for those like me who is never warm enough 🤪 Comfy bed, clean everywhere! Friendly reception staff 😊
Excellent location, close to all the great shops, cafés and restaurants in the Broadway, and only a 10min walk from the rail station. The seafront and Old Leigh are also very close by. The rooms are bright and full of light, the back yard is perfect for breakfast in the morning and to have off street parking in Leigh on Sea is a godsend! Honestly can't fault it and our 3 young adult children loved it too 😊
The service and reception my party of 6 received from Debbi and the team over our 3 night stay was exceptional . Location was fantastic. Hotel was fantastic. But the best of all was the service given to us. Debbi truly went above and beyond to make our stay a memorable one. The friendliness of the hotel and the people of Southend on Sea was truly amazing

Large rooms, clean, and well maintained.
Great food, great service, exceptionally good breakfast.
Best location in Southend On Sea, perfect for a quiet couple weekend. The town doesn't have much to offer for adults, but the hotel makes up for it. The food is exceptionally good, and despite being a busy hotel you can still retreat to a very quiet room.
Highly recommended
The location, the staff, the cleanliness. I've stayed in a few Holiday Inn hotels across the country, and this is by far my best!! Breakfast was great, with a lovely view of airplanes, which the kids found fascinating. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff.
If ever we come back to Southend on sea, we will definitely be staying there again.
Thank you all x
there wasn’t much to like about the hotel overpriced the bar was cold not very cosy the restaurant looked more like a cafeteria the hotel itself did not have a nice fresh smell the rooms were not cleaned properly each day come to Southend quite often so will now be booking the seven hotel for sure
Excellent breakfast and lovely room looking towards the sea through the trees of the little parkland opposite the hotel. The location was a complete surprise as we'd not been to Southend before and didn't realise there was a lovely Victorian conservation area of which this hotel was a part.
Everything! The Hotel was fantastic: very clean, nice decor, exceptional location overlooking the Southend Pier and Amusement Park, but best of all was Debbie, the Manager. Fantastic, kind as could be, an excellent chef who prepared my complimentary full english breakfast for me daily.
Right on seafront, 2 minute walk away from Cliffs Pavilion where we had booked a show. We were located on floor 4. Woke up to wonderful view out to sea. Breakfast excellent, plenty to choose from.
