Spreading for hundreds of kilometres from the mouth of the Oslofjord, Oslo is the largest city by area in Europe and is liberally covered in pristine forests rising up into the outlying hills. South of the unassuming city hall lies a vibrant waterfront known as Aker Brygge, which in summer is full of bustling outdoor restaurants and bars.
For the prettiest buildings head to affluent inner-city suburbs of Frogner and Fagerborg, or admire the traditional Scandinavian wooden houses of Bygdøy and Holmenkollen. Monumental buildings include the Royal Palace which runs daily tours and the Akershus Festning, which is a medieval castle that also served as a military base and provides impressive views of the Oslofjord. Oslo City Hall, or rådhus, offers even more distinctive architecture and it is the location of the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony.
Nature is never far away in Oslo which is ringed by an archipelago of islands which are extremely popular in summer. Hiking, kayaking and sailing are all easily achievable within the city limits. Just as popular, are the many museums. The national Museum houses Edvard Munch’s famous painting The Scream and Viking Ship Museum containing long-lost relics from Norway’s Viking past.

Not the cleanest city in the world, but fine. People are not talkative and they are rather reserved, but they are trying to be helpful when needed. A lot of beautiful places to go, including parks, other 'nature' centres, restaurants. Great public transportation. People speak great English. Mind that everything is rather expensive. Oslo is where you stay to go other places in Norway. A few sights were closed, the rest were so-so. Lot of people watching in the area of Oslo Central station. Locals get out and enjoy a nice day. What a great city! I hope to come back again someday. Lovely people, lots of great walking areas. Excellent infrastructure for travellers (easy train transport from the airport to downtown); the tram was easy to take as a foreigner. Food was delicious everywhere we went. We were especially impressed with the Comfort Hotel Børsparken.

The only thing we did not like was the high standard of living which is good for norwegian but not good for a traveller from Central Europe :D There are many fantastic museum which are worth to visit.
